I recently made a post discussing the London Alternative Investment Market (AIM) and the increased interest in using AIM.
Well, in the most recent issue (July/August 2006) of Lexpert magazine (a Canadian magazine for lawyers) there is a nice article on the AIM and I will note a few of the statistic they use.
- total market cap is 75 billion (a fivefold increase of the last 5 years)
- 20 billion was raised in 2005
- in Q1 2006 6.5 billion was invested
- 519 companies did IPO’s in 2005
Also noted is that the regulatory regime for AIM, while vigorous, is more streamlined than one would find in North America, especially when one considers Sarbanes-Oxley and the SEC.
Something to chew on if you are considering an IPO as a means of expansion…
